Il suffit parfois d&rsquo;un m\u00e9lange invisible dans l&rsquo;air et d&rsquo;une \u00e9tincelle. C&rsquo;est ce que d\u00e9signe le terme atmosph\u00e8re explosive, et c&rsquo;est pourquoi la r\u00e9glementation ATEX encadre strictement les \u00e9quipements utilis\u00e9s dans ces environnements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Qu\u2019est-ce qu\u2019une atmosph\u00e8re explosive ?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>L&rsquo;article R.4227-43 du Code du travail donne la d\u00e9finition r\u00e9glementaire. Une atmosph\u00e8re explosive est un m\u00e9lange avec l&rsquo;air, dans des conditions atmosph\u00e9riques, de substances inflammables sous forme de gaz, vapeurs, brouillards ou poussi\u00e8res, dans lequel, apr\u00e8s inflammation, la combustion se propage \u00e0 l&rsquo;ensemble du m\u00e9lange non br\u00fbl\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En clair : d\u00e8s qu&rsquo;un combustible inflammable se m\u00e9lange \u00e0 l&rsquo;air dans des proportions suffisantes, l&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re devient potentiellement explosive. Une seule source d&rsquo;inflammation suffit alors \u00e0 d\u00e9clencher une explosion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L&rsquo;acronyme <strong>ATEX<\/strong> <strong>pour<\/strong> <strong>ATmosph\u00e8res EXplosives<\/strong> d\u00e9signe \u00e0 la fois ce type d&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re et la r\u00e9glementation europ\u00e9enne qui en d\u00e9coule. La directive 1999\/92\/CE d\u00e9finit les obligations des employeurs pour <a href=\"https:\/\/atexcom.fr\/en\/\">prot\u00e9ger les travailleurs<\/a> expos\u00e9s \u00e0 ce risque.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Comment se forme une atmosph\u00e8re explosive ?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Qu\u2019est-ce qui devient explosif lorsqu\u2019il est m\u00e9lang\u00e9 \u00e0 de l\u2019air ?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Toute substance inflammable peut former une atmosph\u00e8re explosive en se m\u00e9langeant \u00e0 l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne de l&rsquo;air, mais uniquement dans une plage de concentration pr\u00e9cise. Elle est comprise entre deux seuils :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>La LIE (Limite Inf\u00e9rieure d\u2019Explosivit\u00e9) : en dessous de ce seuil, le m\u00e9lange est trop pauvre pour exploser.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Le LSE (Limite Sup\u00e9rieure d\u2019Explosivit\u00e9) : au-del\u00e0, le m\u00e9lange est trop riche pour s\u2019enflammer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Entre ces deux limites, le m\u00e9lange est explosif. On distingue deux grandes familles de combustibles concern\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Les gaz, vapeurs et liquides inflammables<\/strong> : hydrocarbures, solvants, alcools, carburants. Leurs vapeurs se m\u00e9langent \u00e0 l&rsquo;air et forment des atmosph\u00e8res explosives gazeuses, souvent invisibles \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u0153il nu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Les poussi\u00e8res inflammables<\/strong> : farine, sucre, bois, m\u00e9taux, produits pharmaceutiques. Lorsqu&rsquo;elles forment un nuage en suspension dans l&rsquo;air, elles constituent une atmosph\u00e8re explosive poussi\u00e9reuse. Les particules doivent mesurer moins de 0,5 mm de diam\u00e8tre pour pr\u00e9senter ce risque.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Les sources d\u2019inflammation \u00e0 \u00e9liminer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>La pr\u00e9sence d&rsquo;une atmosph\u00e8re explosive ne provoque pas d&rsquo;explosion par elle-m\u00eame. Il faut une source d&rsquo;inflammation dont l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie d\u00e9passe l&rsquo;<strong>\u00e9nergie minimale d&rsquo;inflammation (EMI)<\/strong> de la substance en question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les sources les plus courantes en milieu industriel : surfaces chaudes, \u00e9tincelles d&rsquo;origine \u00e9lectrique ou m\u00e9canique, d\u00e9charges \u00e9lectrostatiques, foudre, r\u00e9actions exothermiques. Les <strong>t\u00e9l\u00e9phones portables non certifi\u00e9s<\/strong> figurent \u00e9galement parmi ces sources. L\u2019explication vient de leurs composants, qui g\u00e9n\u00e8rent des micro-\u00e9tincelles et peuvent atteindre des temp\u00e9ratures suffisantes pour enflammer un m\u00e9lange explosif. C&rsquo;est la raison pour laquelle leur utilisation est formellement interdite en zone ATEX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Les zones ATEX : comment classifier les emplacements \u00e0 risque<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>La <strong>directive 1999\/92\/CE<\/strong> impose aux employeurs de classer en zones tous les emplacements o\u00f9 une atmosph\u00e8re explosive peut se former. Ce classement repose sur la fr\u00e9quence et la dur\u00e9e de pr\u00e9sence du m\u00e9lange explosif.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour les atmosph\u00e8res gazeuses :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Zone 0 : atmosph\u00e8re explosive pr\u00e9sente en permanente ou sur de longues p\u00e9riodes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Zone 1 : atmosph\u00e8re explosive probable en fonctionnement normal<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Zone 2 : atmosph\u00e8re explosive rare ou de courte dur\u00e9e en fonctionnement normal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour les atmosph\u00e8res poussi\u00e9reuses, le m\u00eame principe s&rsquo;applique avec les <strong>zones 20, 21 et 22<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ce zonage sert de base au choix des \u00e9quipements : plus la zone est contraignante, plus le niveau de certification des appareils doit \u00eatre \u00e9lev\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Consultez les <a href=\"https:\/\/atexcom.fr\/en\/normes-atex\/\">normes ATEX<\/a> d&rsquo;Atexcom pour en savoir plus ces classifications et les certifications associ\u00e9es.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Les obligations pour pr\u00e9venir le risque d\u2019explosion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Tout chef d&rsquo;\u00e9tablissement qui manipule des substances combustibles ou inflammables doit \u00e9valuer les risques d&rsquo;explosion et consigner les r\u00e9sultats dans un <strong>DRPCE<\/strong> \u2014 Document Relatif \u00e0 la Protection Contre les Explosions. Ce document recense les zones ATEX du site, leur classification et les mesures de pr\u00e9vention en place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La pr\u00e9vention repose sur 3 axes compl\u00e9mentaires. Le premier consiste \u00e0 <strong>\u00e9viter la formation<\/strong> du m\u00e9lange explosif : ventilation des locaux, confinement des produits inflammables, \u00e9limination des d\u00e9p\u00f4ts de poussi\u00e8res. Le second vise \u00e0 <strong>supprimer les sources d&rsquo;inflammation<\/strong> : proc\u00e9dures de permis feu, interdiction de fumer, utilisation exclusive d&rsquo;appareils certifi\u00e9s ATEX. Le troisi\u00e8me cherche \u00e0 <strong>limiter les effets<\/strong> d&rsquo;une \u00e9ventuelle explosion : r\u00e9sistance des structures, \u00e9vents, syst\u00e8mes de d\u00e9couplage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La <strong>directive 2014\/34\/UE<\/strong> encadre quant \u00e0 elle les fabricants et importateurs d&rsquo;\u00e9quipements destin\u00e9s aux zones ATEX, en leur imposant des exigences essentielles de s\u00e9curit\u00e9 et le marquage CE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u00c9quipements certifi\u00e9s ATEX : pourquoi le choix des appareils est critique<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>En zone ATEX, chaque appareil \u00e9lectrique ou \u00e9lectronique pr\u00e9sent dans l&rsquo;environnement de travail repr\u00e9sente une source d&rsquo;inflammation potentielle. Les \u00e9quipements standards comme les smartphones, talkies-walkies ou tablettes grand public n&rsquo;ont pas leur place dans ces zones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les <a href=\"https:\/\/atexcom.fr\/en\/telephones-atex\/\">t\u00e9l\u00e9phones ATEX<\/a> et <a href=\"https:\/\/atexcom.fr\/en\/radios-atex\/\">radios ATEX<\/a> certifi\u00e9s sont con\u00e7us pour \u00e9liminer intrins\u00e8quement tout risque d&rsquo;\u00e9tincelle ou d&rsquo;\u00e9chauffement dangereux. Leur certification est d\u00e9livr\u00e9e par un organisme notifi\u00e9 conform\u00e9ment \u00e0 la directive 2014\/34\/UE. Elle garantit leur compatibilit\u00e9 avec la zone dans laquelle ils op\u00e8rent, qu&rsquo;il s&rsquo;agisse d&rsquo;une Zone 1\/21 ou d&rsquo;une Zone 2\/22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Les <a href=\"https:\/\/atexcom.fr\/en\/tablettes\/\">tablettes ATEX<\/a> r\u00e9pondent aux m\u00eames exigences pour les \u00e9quipes qui travaillent avec des plans, des outils de GMAO ou des proc\u00e9dures de maintenance directement sur le terrain.
